Abramovich Is Chelsea’s New Manager… And Newcastle Folding

Avram Grant is currently Chelsea’s manager. But the real manager is Roman Abramovich. Reports are flying around that Roman appointed Avram aka his lap dog, to take care of the team and do everything a normal manager does, except for pick the starting 11. Roman was furious Essien played tight and through the middle against Rosenborg and told Sheva to translate ‘Tell the idiot to play the ball out wide next week or else he’s dropped… Rosenborg are packing the centre of the midfield so we need to go round them’. Sheva said ‘Ok Sir’ and translated that to Essien, who said ‘Piss off Roman you’re not the manager’, to which Roman said ‘I will be in an hour when Jose goes’. In truth, this conversation didn’t happen along those exact lines, but I like to think it did.

Roman was growing ever more frustrated with results and how the team played, and needed an excuse to start picking the starting 11. Sheva was bought by Roman and Ballack was not Jose’s pick of a central midfielder to accomodate Lampard, but there was nothing Jose could do about it. Roman is a stubborn man who has no real clue about football. I saw a sign against Hull City written by Chelsea fans saying ‘Chelsea Is Our club, Not Your Toy Roman, Long Live Mourinho!’. Wrong. Fact is

Chelsea is Romans. If Roman wanted to sell all the players, he could do so. If Roman wanted to fold Chelsea FC, he could do so. If Roman wanted to make

Chelsea play behind closed doors, he could do so. Therefore

Chelsea is Romans. Whether it’s his toy is another debate.

I read an interesting article by Duncan Castles, a very well respected journalist with inside info, on how Chelsea were run by Roman (part two found here), and how Romans friends/player agents persuaded Roman to sack Jose by saying things like ‘I could do better than Jose has at Chelsea’ to Roman. Probably one of the most interesting reads I’ve had this year so take a look, the article also covers how Terry wanted a clause at the end of his contract which allowed him to take charge of Chelsea if he wished to do so. Clearly this backs my argument that footballers are getting more idiotic by the day, anyone with two brain cells would see sense into managing a club like

Chelsea without any coaching experience. I also read Chris Mort, the Newcastle chairman, saying how Newcastle were on the verge of folding due to Shepperds financial calamity on running the club, if the club had not been invested into by the end of the financial year on 30th June. On 25th September 2007, reports came out in Newcastle which showed Mike Ashley reducing the clubs debt by paying off another £45 Million; that means in total he has reduced what was in the region of £80million right down to the region of just £5million. This is the best news

Newcastle fans have heard for the past couple of years. Even better than Owen signing from

Madrid, or Sam Allardyce coming in to manage the club. Why? Because

Newcastle with their huge, and I mean huge, financial debt was a club in decline, especially the way they were spending in the transfer market.Ashley has managed the club with his head, not his heart. His heart would have said ‘Feck it, we keep spending on players and eventually we will see revenue coming in to cover for the debt’, but his brain said ‘Limit what Sam has to spend this season and next to around £10m, clear the debt off and slowly start making profit’. And everyone knows that profit=money to spend on players. Sam will turn Newcastle into a top 6 team by 2010.

Newcastle fans need to be patient. They are the luckiest fans in

England at the moment, why? Because had Mr Ashley not come in with his money and sorted the club out, millions of Geordies would not be watching

Newcastle play week in week out at St James’ Park at this point in time.

    I am not entirely convinced about the reasons behind Mourinho’s sacking/resignation/mutual agreement or whatever the papers want to call it. Although it appears Roman wants to run the show, I also think he wants a team that plays attractive and entertaining football. Was Mourinho’s team playing this type of football? I don’t think so! Is Avram Grant the answer? Surely not.
